Mentoring graduate students on policy analysis methods in a Sustainable Energy Policy Class for an applied project with the City of Phoenix.

This class introduces systems thinking, focusing on the complexity and resilience of interconnected social-ecological systems. It helps students develop a deeper understanding of sustainability and devise effective policy responses to related challenges by exploring systems such as production, distribution, and consumption systems, urban systems, cultural systems, military systems, hydrological systems, ecological systems, and their interrelations.

This course introduces students to key sustainability concepts and the sustainable development of cities in the global, regional, and local contexts. The course will cover the environmental, socio-economic, and structural problems of contemporary cities and how they affect natural systems and communities and specific sustainability challenges and potential solutions in different urban systems and sectors (e.g. transportation, water, energy). 

This course applies economic principles to the allocation of environmental goods and services, external environmental effects, and environmental public goods; decision-making under uncertainty, adaptation to and mitigation of environmental change.
